Fresh talent continues to head to Foreship, although new Marketing & Communications Manager Michelle Cottet joins the company through this newly created post in what she is happy to call a “match made in Finland”.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, and with a degree in audio visual media, Cottet says that moving to Finland has been a life goal. During her journey, she accumulated experience working for two of the biggest name brands in cruise, where her responsibilities moved from a guest services role into ship project work - including subcontractor service coordination during drydockings, and new innovations.
“One of my first jobs after university was at a cruise line in Genoa and I immediately found my passion for maritime. That grew as I worked through multiple exciting projects and ship visits – first in Italy and then in Germany,” says Cottet.
Once relocated to Hamburg, Cottet came across Foreship as part of a cruise owner’s innovation project monitoring team, as the Finnish company managed a decarbonization initiative which Cottet describes as “the most fascinating work I’d ever been involved with”.
“Many of the areas where Foreship provides a technical lead – hydrodynamics, zero carbon propulsion, and more sustainable fuels, for example, are common concerns across shipping. Sector-specific knowledge is vital at Foreship to communicate meaningfully, internally and externally. We plan a fresh approach to marketing that establishes how best to use our expertise to deliver what clients really need.”
Already fluent in five languages, Cottet started learning Finnish again in earnest after her arrival. Over the last years, she has also secured LR and Rina certification for marine equipment system knowledge and sustainability course accreditation from Arcada University. Now busy investigating how to add professional marketing qualifications to the collection, communicating with all stakeholders is unlikely to be an issue.
